A Naga-Uta describing an incident at our local zoo some years ago. I was admiring the alpha male and his reaction to my gaze brought people running to see what was happening. I was told that gazing directly into their eyes is seen as a challenge. Not my intention at all!!
Timber Wolf
Timber wolf backs away As I gaze deeply into His solemn grey eyes. I see beautiful grey wolf, Magnificent male. He throws back his head and howls, Rest of pack join in. My gaze seen as a challenge To his leadership. Admiration misconstrue d My intent misunderstood.

All kidding aside, I like this a lot. It is one of those poems that comes from close observation and recall...Excellent job.
We humans would do well to understand the subtle signs of other animals. The overly large font "shouts" at me and drive me away. Be more subtle and capture me with your verse.
it is said that a good hunter can get close enough ro touch his quarry by 1] not looking at the quarry. 2] not walking directly at it.

Great story Jackie! Hey - you may have been misconstrued, but it's not just any woman who can prompt the proverbial "wolf call"...you have a way with animals don't you. Your "elephant" encounter and now the wolf. Great write.
