My Magic Carpet - Part 1

My magic carpet would carry me
To many far distant lands,
An epic journey over green jungles,
Savannah and arid hot desert sands.

I’ll command my magic carpet
To fly me away above the clouds,
Where imagination and flights of fancy
Would take me far from the crowds.

Flying high above the Swiss Alps
I’d gaze down on lost frozen lakes,
Through magnificent snow covered peaks
I would see the path a glacier takes.

Gliding down beyond the snowline
Past tinkling, sparkling streams,
Into sun warmed alpine meadows,
Flower covered, and filled with dreams.

Then south to the land of Italy,
To the Eternal City of Rome,
Gateway to the eastern Silk Road
That took Marco Polo so far from home.

I’d drop in at sunny Sorrento
And visit the Isle of Capri,
Where the view from the top of the island
Through a pearlescent haze is free.

Down to the Gulf of Taranto
And across the Ionian Sea,
I’ll stop at the Acropolis in Athens
And drink Ouzo instead of hot tea

Now my head’s in an aniseed fog
And my vision seems to be double!
But my carpet knows where to take me,
It will find its way with no trouble.

We’ll travel the route of the Silk Road
Where caravans carried gold to Cathay.
When I reach the Great Wall of China
I’ll float down its length in one day.

Then on to the Nepalese mountains,
On the summit of Everest I’ll stand,
My carpet will wrap itself around me
As I marvel at a world that is grand.
