Costumes

I have worn a lot of costumes just dressing up for fun.

And not only for Halloween, though that’s a special one.

I’ve played each game kids play today; I’ve dressed up like a clown.

I’ve been a racecar driver and a pitcher on a mound.

I’ve worn clothes like a rock star such as Elvis and the lot.

I’ve been a deep-sea diver and I’ve been an astronaut.

And if you don’t wear nothing but a towel after your bath,

Then you can pretend you’re Tarzan and make your parents laugh.

I used to be an Indian brave, with arrows on my back.

I wore a costume mom had made out of a burlap sack.

I made myself a horse from just a broomstick, cloth and rope.

I rode Old Paint on war parties and up a dusty slope.

The best costume I ever made was funnier than that,

One day I dressed my dog up, so he looked just like our cat.

With a cape pinned to pajamas, your arms spread from your side,

You’ll fly through air like Superman.  I know because I’ve tried.

Sometimes I’d be a cowboy, with my cap guns on my hip.

From an old coat I made chaps and a mustache for my lip.

My cowboy’s hat was made of felt, a brim and string chinstrap.

I’d run with the wind in my face and outlaws at my back.

I dressed sis like the preacher’s wife in grandmas worn out suit.

And when she put on mother’s hat she actually looked cute.

I like making up costumes; mother says I have the knack.

I’ve even stuffed clothes in my bed so I could miss my nap.

Someday, when I am all grown up, to Hollywood I’ll go

And I’ll make all the costumes in a famous movie show.

this is a very enjoyable read; thanks for the memories! i've been a ghost, a witch, a gypsy, an angel, and most recently, a mardi gras reveler! LOL don't remember all that i have been for hallowe'en, but i do remember being a gypsy, a witch, an angel, and a ghost. i also dressed up once for work, that was when i was the mardi gras reveler! LOL even had the beads on and a cup for catching beads! LOL i couldn't put anything on my face because where i work is rather wet at times, so i didn't want to wear anything that would get messed up by the water! working in the back of a restuarant can get very messy, if you know what i mean...LOL (((HUGS))) and love, your friend in texas, karen lynn. :D a correction on karla's review: last year she was a CHEETAH. a cheetah with green hair (the stuff she sprayed on her hair turned green; it was supposed to be YELLOW!) and a white boa for a tail; she was the rarest kind of cheetah....LOL

(((londis)))

you've brought many pleasant memories of halloweens past--thank you

my favorite costumes? two: when i dressed up like a performer from CATS (last year, for work--took me three hours to do the makeup and hair...and almost as long to get it off--still had traces of glitter and green in my hair the next day, and o, yeah...the black lips LOL) and when i dressed up as raggedy ann...i sat on the front porch, slumped over, and had the bowl of candy on my lap...some kids came and started to take the whole bowl, i sat up and said, "just a couple of pieces now," maaaaan, you never saw kids run so fast! :)

delightful poem! i truly enjoyed this one!

(((HUGS))) and love,

karla. :)
