Walking through the darkness alone
looking for my peace
listening for my name
a space for me to belong.
shadows hiding here and there
voices covered with stones
swirling mist and then
silence
              silence
                            silence.
walking through the darkness
nothing at every corner
only crawling mist and quiet
a tell-tale sign in dark
my insides scream the darkness
my ears explode
my voice escapes
they haunt the groping stillness
I reach for the league of lines
only to come up
empty
            empty
                        empty.
reaching into everything
walking through the darkness alone
looking for my peace
a chill envelops my soul
and squeezes me breathlessly
I struggle with the density
reaching for the light
listening for my name
and it's not even night.
save me
                save me
                                 save me
before I stumble and fall
before i'm pulled by the undertow
and drown in the murky flow
the mystery will be over
but the darkness sustains
sticking to me like super glue
sticky   dry    and hard.
peering into the murky blackness
the mist is blinding me
struggling to where the corner be
and it moves   it's calling me
ricocheting all around me
I can't see it in the darkness
It's still sucking me in
a drowning blanket envelops me
a warm kind of peace
i'm tired of the struggle
it all begins to blend
mixed with the good and the bad
a whisper      save me
                                        save me
                                                        save    me.
the blend doesn't end
the bad over takes the good
it all begins again
the bad and the good
save   me   save   me   save   m...
silence   silence   silen...
stillness   stillness   stilln...
I close my eyes
I close    my eyes
my hands      are       frozen
                                                 sinking into
                                                                     darkness
I smile at my peace...
I knew you would come.

Regis and Jerry both of you have brightened my day. Your reviews are always up lifting. Both of you make me want to write more. Thanks.

This is like you looked into my soul... ...and started writing what you felt and saw. I'd say that is what poetry ought to do if it is at its apex. That's the gift you've given me, Thomasena. Thank you. Love and best wishes,

Regis

Sometimes, when the misery, heartache and unimaginable darkness besets us, after horror after horror comes to call and all of our pleas for help and guidance fall on deaf ears, when all else fails, the peace you write about can be a welcomed one. Marvelous, wicked poetry!

Through the Amazon by S. Oliver Eldridge

The drug called "The Shari" has been used for vision quests over many years. But, when all the rivers start drying up, the tribe must send a young hunter named Tomás on a much more important trip through the Amazon.
