Poem Artwork

in hands the eyes

at times I eye my hands as if they don’t belong to me
in a strange dissociation between idea and act, between
desire and caress, between the sketch and the drawing.
and we become accomplices, them and I, autonomous
as we are, they committing or omitting, and I
then turning my eyes away, to that other side
to that somewhere between the air and I and them, where
I forgive them or not, but, because I understand them
like I understand the palpable sense of what reason
will never capture, always shelter between my breasts
 - where the heart beats – to then release them
and, in such gesture, release myself, forgiven or not.
it is also strange how, sometimes, we consummate
one another; they suddenly trace, in lucid lines, the contour
of my blind drawings – and I take them to my eyes
where they contemplate, through the sense of touch
the soul of the drawings. with no possible mistake.

This makes me think, we as human being are like an army of parts, controlled by the heart and brain
sometimes getting off in different directions
one running ahead of the other
to the one goal
now to me, an army is not one force of labeled distruction........arms, build, move, and plan, its a component of many levels
as we are
as humanity

Xandinha,

As I read this, I envisioned an artist glancing in the mirror, capturing the details of both physical and spiritual form so as to paint a self-portrait. Then the hands create what the eyes of the heart have perceived and become one with each other.

Had the artist M.C. Escher's creative gift been that of poetry, I suspect he would have blessed the world with lines such as these. A superb write that dazzles with its brilliant pendulum swing back and forth between object and perspective. A joy to read this as it is to read all of your work.

First the eyes and mind conceptualize and then the hands seek out to embrace or fabricate what was once only a thought.

To bring the hands and physical eyes into sync with what the spiritual eyes percieve, and with what the hands are capable of creating, is what the great painters and sculpters mastered.

There is such a mysterious union between how the hands consumate what the spirit and eyes foresee.

This was a blessing of thought.

Alexandra, you are a person keenly aware of things and through your poetry, and otherways I'm sure, you convey the beauty of what true awareness is all about! Wondrous poem!

our hands belong to our bodies, our eyes belong to our souls ... together they create the world within us as well as the world around us ... our hands dexterity depends on our eyes perceptual capacity ... i found this poem stimulating as well as contemplative ...

When we learn to love and accept ourselves completely as a marvel of the divine hands of the Great Architect of the Universe, then we really are truly at home...

Quite Zen-like is this description and summery of the relationship of your hands as your eyes behold them. You paint for us a lovely picture which had a levitating effect as I read the affiliation of your eyes and the hands, going so far as to become intimate within the soul of your drawings. I can understand this.

A fascinating poetic analogy, Alexandra. May both your eyes, and your hands, continue to do what they do best.
