Sometime ago, a friend, fellow author and brilliant poet from Portugal, Jorge Vicente, proposed a very interesting challenge to those who enjoy art and writing poetry, and who regularly collaborate in a workshop of collective poetry called “Encontros de Entrecampos” (“Meetings of Entrecampos”) – a very interesting idea first outlined by Jorge, and then developed and expanded with the enthusiastic participation of a growing number of poets from Portugal, Brazil, and Africa.
In this particular occasion, Jorge challenged us to write a poem inspired in a painting or photo that he would select and feature in the “Entrecampos” blog. The artwork he finally selected was a painting by German artist Georg Baselitz (shown above), and some poets took up the challenge. The diversity of approaches, styles, perspectives, impressions, all regarding this same painting, was something fascinating to behold, and I commend Jorge for this great creativity-spurring initiative!
