Poem Artwork

Here and the way ahead

I walked here when daylight was still as sweet, as milky
as life’s first feed from the breasts of dream.

My steps were weightless and thus left no visible trail;
yet, strangely, they followed perceptible footprints of forgiveness
and of love and of gratitude - and I recognized each one
of them as my own, paving the way ahead.

Then, I sat;

Here, in the fecund shade of fig trees, touching the awning
of peace woven of olive branches; on the edge of a well -
I can’t see the water in its depths, but I can hear its
sating silence, and I can taste its coolness upon
my thirst;

Here, aware of my breath being one with the air, aware
of this simple, essential serenity that caresses my brow
with the benevolence of anointed fingertips;

Here, where I walked when a dream had just given birth
- and a life, newborn, was imbibing the sweetness, the
milky, pure whiteness of daylight, like a first feed;

Here, from where my steps will take me -
weightless and bare; following each footprint of
forgiveness, of love, and of gratitude that I may
humbly, recognize as my own;

Perceptibly paving the way ahead.

Xuxa, meu anjo ...

From that very first line, which set the tone so nicely, I found myself in another world. And what an amazing concept ... no footprints left behind, only footprints of forgiveness, love and gratitude that we lay down before ourselves in a path that blooms in happiness. You are a remarkable woman!

Amo te muito,
Teu Joseph

It is humbling itself to recognize...that what we leave behind..(just like footprints in the sand) is what is remembered most...how we loved

essential serenity that caresses my brow - that is what I felt in reading this philosophical poem, a serenity full of tastes and smells, especially the fig tree. Victor
