Lifting thoughts of fall
Sometimes thought falls
fortuitous
much as leaf would
on dead mounds piled under
the memory of the tree…
Yes… does the wind not take leaves
where it must
and not where they please
as their surface turns the colours
of spring dried out
into summer heavy
with adjacent fruit
and the inner recesses
surrender, sated
- weightless
to fall?
It should not come as a surprise
then
that thought may
as suddenly
lift
and, like the mounds,
be swept away -
leaving the ground
bare
and the tree
ready
for new leaves…
