Painting moods

Inspired by a conversation about a certain cultural tradition of wearing black when a loved one dies, while in other cultures mourning is symbolized by other colours, like white, saffron-yellow, red... or by no colour in particular.

Painting moods

It seems I have been doing it from day one;
dipping emotions in jars, sometimes pools or
then mere stains of colours, and painting moods.
You have asked me what colour was mourning;
and I have answered with a spectral sketch, yes, an
ambiguous self-portrait covered in the full spectrum
of moods that go from darkness to whole rainbows
like smiles much too fluid dissolved in tears that
don’t flow because they’re much too thick.
You were rightfully surprised; yes, you had to be.
After all, I painted mourning, the emotion, in all possible
colours and no colour at all, for I don’t know how many
days – and yet, I dipped it in black: for now, the mood.

Alexandra,

No one can imagine the period of darkness we attempt to feel our way through at times like these, even if we have faced the same difficulty ourselves. I have been privileged to see you rise like a new dawn.

Happy to be beside you,
Joseph

I felt the emotions through your poetry
The colors are painted
Just like the smiles
And the tears
We all are just human
its okay to be that
So let go of fear baby
Just imagine that!
Try to be silly
Just like the cat in the hat
And look to the sunshine
And paint a great day!

thanks for your insights

Black is good mourning color. Many wear bright colors to the services now, but I wore Navy Blue with Red Blazer to Dad's viewing in 1972, and Mom made me take off the red blazer for the next day's buriel. I wore black skirt and maroon blouse for hubby's in 2007. I stll prefer darker colors to the lighter and brighter ones for mourning. People used to wear dark colors for 1 year after, but they don't do that no more either. Traditions have changed over the years.

..and some thrown ashes upon themselves, it is after the degree of sadness, pain, lost, wanting, longings...that our soul takes on a rainbow of colors that are so different than those of the next man...but that's what make us flesh with feelings.

Georg
