For Honor and Gratitude...
Armed Forces Day...May 21, 2011

Poem Artwork

I watched the flag pass by one day, it fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it, and then stood at ease.

I looked at him in uniform so young, so tall, so proud
with eyes alert, my own grandson, Josh...The Marine.

I thought how many men like him had fallen through the years,
~How many died on foreign soil~How many Mother's tears fell?
as our flag drapes the coffin in reply.

No, Freedom isn't Free...Our Armed Forces make it so.
God Bless America, May Freedom Reign and Be the Purpose.

" If we cannot do him honor
While he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage
At the ending of his days"

Perhaps just a simple headline
In the paper that might say:

"OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING,
A SOLDIER DIED TODAY."

On the eve of the day we honor him, Josh, the war hero, my thoughts are with yours of him. He does our country proud. I salute him.

An apt and timely tribute, Vivian. It is so sad that soldiers continue to die and peace remains elusive. Love, peace, and best wishes to you,

Regis

No, freedom is not free, but it is worth fighting for until one day peace reigns. Keep the light burning bright until his return. God bless all...

Be always safe,

Karen

"May freedom reign", you have captured the words that every law abiding American speaks of nightly in their prayers. Loving tribute to Josh from a proud grandmother, so special is the poem from your heart. Well done, my friend. Joy L. Hale

Hussein is taking our freedom away from us day by day, and if anyone doesn't believe that they need to take off those rose-colored glasses. In other words, young men like your grandson who have died have died in vain. We are being conquered from the inside. It is happening.

I am proud of your grandson. I wish him well.
