Poem Artwork

Sentiments never to leave
that time befitting the recipe
of my cake and love's repartee

Now my rusty and worn out tin
no longer packed to picnic
I must leave you behind with
our red checkered tablecloth
forever in sentimental storage

My darling of fifty years you must
no longer ignore the loons calling
me to their golden pond where now
I must lie me down to sleep alone

Return you must to Mac Arthur
for that is where my youthful heart
for you remains and all the memories
sheltered from the rain

I, of sunshine yellow sundress,
and You in trippy paisley t-shirt
upon our grassy knoll enjoying
our cake layered with those infinite
moments that will never melt away
until we meet again in the great beyond

An absolutely lovely poem of times remembered, mixed with a sadness of not seeing a loved one again until you meet in the great beyond. Your words tell a beautiful story of youthful love and the angst that often goes hand in hand with young love.

Vividly brings me to a place where you can feel safe and loved.
Wonderfully written as only you can do that Lady Vivian.

Much peace, love and light,

And we'll never have that recipe again... The song is in my head now.
This is sad yet so beautiful Vivian.

This piece has a very personal tone, the word pictures are vivid, the chronology is precise, your muse must have beeen working overtime. A fine piece of work.

This is splendidly written, Vivian
...'melting in the dark' and 'left the
cake out in the rain' from the song
come back to me strongly;
your final stanza is especially poignant.

The title caught my eye.
Glad it did.
What a splendid poem.
Rich with meaning and thought.
And the picture reminds of St Pete.
Yes, thanks for sharing.

this one puts a richly resonant texture on an old Eliot mixture of memory and desire, a kind of splendid objective correlative abounds in prolific prolixity, and all done without so much as a gush of mush, either... there was an old song they used to sing about the time I was coming of age by the name of MacArthur Park... had a stately rhythm, replete with stringed instrumental accompaniment... I'll read your poem to the strains of that reverie. I enjoyed your poem immensely and will return to it often.

Thank you for sharing.
