There's a song I listen to often called "My love is in America" by Dolores Keane and this poem really reminds me of the song, it has the same aching sadness, the same recalling of fond memories. This feels like it was written from the heart. This is excellent work.

This could be someone going off to war, or returning home to a distant shore. They said that absence makes the heart grow fonder. But long absence can lead to a life unlived and longing that is never fulfilled. It makes me sad just think about it.
