My Quest for Peace
My quest for peace evades me. I search it all around in vain.
This birth is probably not for peace; it is for suffering and pain.
When sunshine franticly I crave, all I get is lashing rain.
When I decide I’ll go for loss, I find myself in midst of gain.
When I have tried to seek respect, all I’ve found is vile disdain.
The sorrows I have left behind threaten me to return again.
I’ll rise above these petty lots, and try to seek impersonal pain.
Just personal gains contain their stings and so will they always remain.
The urge to rise must all despise, unless it comes with general gain.
Getting the crown with others down, my painful status will sustain.
For peace to come and bide I must shun lust for power and domain.
Wealth brings pain; health comes when one has learned how to abstain.
