Here's one that is a little different. Who do you think the old man is?

Poem Artwork

I had passed him almost everyday

and a few time's nodded

as I passed on my way

This day was different in many ways

I felt alone and lost

within a world of people and pain

I walked up and nodded as I

usually did

and paused to ask the time

He glanced up with his

rheummy eyes

Where deep within

a sparkle still shined

This old man sat everyday

feeding the ducks on the pond

He reached up and clasped my hand

He said, "Have you a sit down

for a minute, if you can"

I thought at first to refuse

But something in his eyes

and in the feel of his hands

drew me

I sat beside him

alone

 just the two of us

and pondered the weeks events

All those years working

long hours into the night

all the money made

went into our big grand house

I had three children

I loved more than all the world

and my mate

that held the key's

to my hearts gate

My life was perfect

not unlike some fairy tale

Before I saw it had all went

 stright to hell

Now I sat broken,

 worn and confused

Not knowing which way to turn

My Children gone

All my efforts

had been in vain

She had walked away

and brought the rain

it started as a drizzle

cold, wet

sinking deep to my bones

Then a down-pour

Untill I could see no more

The Old Man sitting beside me

Had said not a word

But, it was in that quiteness

I thought I heard

You've got to learn to forgive

and let it go my Son

When you do

You once again will see the sun

The gray clouds will pass

If you'll just stop and ask

Don't carry this burden

all alone

For if you do

one day you'll see

it will be You alone

under these old tree's

Feeding the ducks

and still feeling

down on your luck

So chin up my boy

Stand tall and proud

There is more to this life

than money and shrouds

reach down deep

and pull up a smile

Having sat there

 for quite awhile

When I turned to look

I was alone

I reached within

to touch my inner man

He was wounded

but had felt

the gentle touch of

The Old Man

The Old Man is the spirit of Johnny Cash. Just listen to his songs and he says the same.

A truly exceptional parable filled with much inspiration and creative vision. Not sure who the Old Man was but the gift he brought was the healing love and compassion of the Christ Spirit. Much peace and many blessings to you--

Tina, I believe that the old man is the inner self of the young man, which could also be interpreted as his guardian angel. He could be the young man's role model as who he would someday like to be.

I think that the old man is the guardian angel of the young man, and is a loving expression of his thoughts and feelings. Keep up the good work, Tina.

I think the old man is a "teacher." They come in different guises. Thank you for sharing this offering, Tina. Love and peace.

No matter what one does in life, or what others have done in their life that is against you, forgiveness is what makes everything well once again.

Since my mother took ill, there are so many layers of emotions unfolding within me. We live, and we learn. Nobody is perfect. No one had a manual on how to live life when they step into this world, we are all living and learning at the same time. Sometimes we make mistakes, and sometimes others have made mistakes, but once we realize that we are all here to live and learn, and once we have forgiven each other, there is so much happiness within us.

I find that people who are not ready to forgive other's mistake have only themselves to answer for their own happiness, for if one cannot be happy within oneself, it is highly unlikely that others can make them happy.

We live, we work, we fulfill our dreams; and if they're not fulfilled by the time we leave this earth, at least we know we have given it our best try and that's what makes each of us so valuable as a human being.

Hope my rambling is not upsetting everyone...

i really do like this.

a personal story ... started my job as a convenience store clerk ... Graveyard shift (11pm-7am) a few months ago. besides the drunks & skunks i have a "Regular"...older man (older than me - that's old), comes in every morning around 6am, coffee refill (75cents) and the lottery results. sometimes, pay by check + $10. this man gave me a really hard time while i was learning, i took his sh*t, now we bee "Friends". i have actually learned not only about "his Life" but about "HIM". people are so wonderful. we have only to appreciate them.

Awesome poem, Tina. Maybe the old man was an angel sent to lift this mans spirits, ease his despair. I enjoyed this very much.

My first thought was a missing parent. I think we bring our own frame of references to much of thinking. Please read my blog. to understand what I mean. I'm working on a poem also. I guess the old man is your inner-spirit. I love the write. Thanks for sharing. Love Betty Torain.
