What I love doing when I make up my story-telling light verses, is to make one up for family and friends on their birthday; it makes the sentiment in the card much more personal, and this one is dedicated to my lovely youngest brother, Craig, as he hit his half-century this month (October). I know he loves it and I hope you like it too.

Craig turns Fifty

I cast my mind back and I clearly remember

Back in the sixties, sometime in September

My Mum said that soon, in the next month maybe

She announced to us all, she was having a baby

I was seven back then, and the first that I knew

Was when Dad came and woke me, to introduce you

And there you were tiny, and wrapped up real tight

I got a brand-spanking-new little brother that night

He’s more than a friend, is my little brother

He supports me no end and I’d soon discover

A closeness; a warmth, a great sense of humour

You’ve no idea what he means to this Baby Boomer

That October baby was a blessing you see

A little sibling for my other brother and me

And as we’ve got older, things wouldn’t be the same

If that night, all those years ago, the Stork never came

The baby’s a man now, the years have sped by

He’s reached the big Five-Oh, this exceptional guy

Happy Birthday dear Craig, my sentiment’s sincere

Though my recall is vague, ’66 was a good year!

A beautifully written birthday poem. You bet your bippy, he loved it. You went and reminded me how my younger twin brothers, about that age, just turned their birthday that I would've completely overlooked had my sister not wished them both, in a non-poetic way, Happy Birthday.

Ditto what Jerry said, there's nothing like family.

THIS is just a great poem for your brother . . . You said he liked it, how could he not like it? Beautiful sentiments . . .
