I'm going through changes. As I get older I'm finding the sorts of issues my parents complained about are starting to happen to me as I hit my middle years. But, as ever, I can make up a rhyme about simply falling asleep frequently in front of the telly; something that happens more often than not and never used to happen before. And I just have to live with it and become au fait with the recording device on my set top box.

Snoozie Woozie

Just like any average person, I’m partial to a kip

At night in bed I make sure I get 8 hours straight

But lately I’ve noticed my energy levels dip

And the need for a siesta is a requirement of late

I sit down of an evening to watch my favourite shows

And before long it feels as though my vigour has diminished

No sooner am I comfortable, than my eyelids start to close

And before I know it, all too soon my show has nearly finished

It’s gone beyond a joke now as I’m missing out on things

The start and end of a movie that I’ve only seen in parts

Makes no sense to me with the confusion that it brings

Unless I inject pure caffeine before the programme starts

Then I’m bouncing off the walls but that won’t last for long

When I settle down to watch TV, with remote control I’m choosing

I think I am attentive, but alas I find I’m wrong

The eyelids start to droop; before long I’m sat there snoozing

What is this state, the opposite of insomnia that I’m feeling?

It’s puzzling but I’m guessing, and if the truth be told

That to doze off at the drop-of-a-hat is highly unappealing

And is really a sign, regrettably, that I’m just getting old

Well penned and relatable to me.

I am much younger, or older, depending upon who's lying. Because of my condition, I have had interrupted sleep for about 27 years and currently and managed the to get in about five hours a night. It seems to be enough, because I will wake up from a sound sleep that 5 am and be unable to go back to sleep. So, it is no strange thing that I find myself dozing while reading here at AD or watching shows, or even, writing some of my more boring stuff. When it's exciting, I write right on through basic stuff I should be doing my attention is so focused.

That is why I am so glad and willing to pay an outrageous price per month for on-demand TV. Now I can go back and watch shows that I missed because they were on the same timeslot, parts of shows that I missed because I was interrupted by a phone call or something else, and for those times when I grew drowsy and missed some of the best parts.

For me, as I get older, I find myself not missing out on anything except getting out of the house. ;-)

Well, I wish I could do that. I'm just the opposite. I'm suffering from insomnia. Sometimes I won't sleep for a couple of days (especially when I'm writing my stories), and then on the third day, I would sleep like a baby more than 12 hours straight. My nights and days are all messed up.

I'm afraid there are many of us living in the same realm as you, including me. Thanks for being our poster child, and this amusing write.

Cheers,
Dan
