Inspired by my friend W.D. Jacobs, My NightHawk, who once asked me to run with him into the trees to listen to the voices of Ancient Ancestors, carried on the wind.
**************
Starlight acompanys me into the hills
the wind blowing against my face
it is a most inviting thrill
as I journey into my secret place
Whitecapped peaks rise ahead
as I eagerly dash thru
dozens of wildflower beds
still damp from morning dew
A cry of greeting from the Hawk
who soars high at near dawn
I answer his greeting squawk
and the bidding nod of a Fawn
Upon a fallen Redwood trunk
I sit and listen, to learn
from wisdom handed down,
by my Native ancestors, to discern
All is quiet now, as I listen from within
my heart's anxious to hear
a lesson whispered on the wind
to bless my youth with great cheer
My smiling face is all aglow
Ican hear soft words of inspiration
when I feel the north wind blow
ordaining me in this rite of declaration
To enjoy my life with great appeal
and leave my mark where I've ridden
to laugh with gusto and live with zeal
So whispers the wind, of things once hidden
