Yes it's that time again. New Year Resolutions. My mother was apt to remark, " Promises like pie crusts, made to be broken.

On New Year Resolutions

Another Christmas come and gone,
And like all the years that have come along,
We have the memories of this and long gone days,
We take a mental note once again, to mend our erring ways,

The promise of a new start is always laden with fresh hope,
We look back upon the just past year, and think, this time we’ll better cope,
Knowing oh so well the mistakes we’ve made in this year past,
Facing the unknown with renewed vigor and an open heart,

Oh foolish person, you know full well these promises you cannot keep,
No matter how fervent the wish, far to soon for forgiveness you’ll weep,
Having stumbled, fallen for what might be the oldest trick in the book
of life,
Once again here you are in the midst of argument and strife,

But yet at this stage the coming year is as yet untouched,
The promises made so freely can truly mean so much,
Sworn so vehemently upon that holy and sacred oath.
Another resolution which , as those of the past, can give us hope.
