Sometimes I awaken to find a spider looming overhead and am unable to get rid of it.

My skin prickles
I'm a nervous wreck
As I don't know
Where you'll turn up next.

I search the ceiling
I look at the wall
I look everywhere
I think you might crawl.

Although you are black
And my room, white
Even with the contrast
You remain out of sight.

If I can't find you
Before I sleep
I know in my bed
You will creep.

And then I'll a waken
With a terrible sore
Knowing where you'd been
The night before.

But for some odd reason
You've escaped my view
And now in the morning
I must empty each shoe.

You think you've got
The best of me
But wait ‘til you show up
And then we'll see.

But in the meantime
I'm a nervous wreck
As I don't know where
You'll show up next.

I'll play with snakes, gators, or even frothing mouthed dogs. As for spiders, I kickem, squishem, and flushem. This mostly due to having a Banana spider take up residence on my face once. If only for one spine shocking moment. Loved the write

whether this is about a spider or a metaphor for a person, it is chilling...well constructed piece...good job, Fawn

YIKES! Chllling write! Thanks for feeding my nightmare machine; I HATE spiders! *CRINGING* If I have any dreams tonight about spiders, it's YOUR fault!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your (arachaphobic) Texas friend, Karen Lynn. :(

Fawn you should only know how I have lost sleep waiting for a spider to reappear when I've lost sight of it. Fantastic poem, I know the feeling well;-)!

Frightful...hate the things myself.
Chase mosquitoes all night long.
Well done.
