The Lady And The Bum

Poem Artwork

As the Lady was walking down the street

She saw the Bum sitting on the sidewalk and very discreet

She got closer to him and then walked on by

Thinking that he was drunk and high

When she got on a little further, in her ear she heard him sigh

Behind it was a weeping of many tears

That he had cried  for many years

She felt his hurting deeply within her heart

Which made her go back to where he was and start

Asking him about his situation, why he was that way

Why are you sitting here crying today

When he did not say a word to her

She asked can I please help you Sir

Why are you crying, what's wrong with you

He said, I do not know what to do

She leaned down and reach for his hand

And up looked a pretty hazel eyed man

She then reach for his other hand too

As he put the liqour bottle away as he always do

When he stood up,

The scent of his body was really harsh and rough

Still she embraced him with a hug and all that she had

Because he was feeling hurt and that was not good but bad

She felt that it was something in his past

That made him feel rejected and It seemed to last

Having a strong hold upon his life

Is was just not cool nor is it right

She prayed for him and kiss him on the cheek too

Praying that he would make it through

Life can get very hard at times

For everyone,  even yours as well as mine

Today the lady is very glad to say

That the man is no longer a Bum this day

Just take some time out to show one person some real love

You never know what miracles you can bestow in someone life which comes from up above

lovely read,

This is a beautiful story, La'Wanda. Made me think of Jesus, touching the leper. There is a story behind many of those we meet who may appear as bums. "Man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart."
