my pretense is too sorrowful to bear

memorized each line to keep
saying only not from heart
stood aside a mount too steep
take a step was all my part.


yet i stood so shadowed still
hearing only echoes loud
of past pleasures, yes until
comes a step back, not forward.


all the while i knew i could
forget all that i have passed
murmer regrets then i would
fall down to my knees so fast.


shame, indeed, sorrow i bear
pretend to know what to do
burdened, sitting on this chair
i can't even write what's true .
