Kayaking leads to observing the Great Blue Heron.

Wedding Dance

Paddling into quiet waters,
the boat shrank in relation
to size of the gulf it occupied,
adventure my anticipation.

The twelve foot kayak drifted
like a dried oak leaf across
mirrored surface of the bay
away from shoreline moss.

Viewing super-sized seascape,
the supreme intimacy of coastal
kayaking was indescribable,
a throne of heavenly visceral.

Rainbow armadas traced the inlets
and from my unique front row seat,
I spotted nonchalant great blue heron
prowling banks for his daily vegete.

Stealthily entering regal bird’s territory,
the red boat seemed smaller than ever.
My heart thumped trying to escape shirt
holding it in place as I drifted even nearer.

Suddenly other Ardea Herodias dashed
into sequestered marsh of magical rune
plumping slate plumage enticing Blue,
their throats swelled in same echoing tune.

This song of nature, recited by majestic pair
leads me, their melody deepening in throaty
song as fading light cloaks their wedding dance.
Click! My camera captures their sacred abbacy.

I have a friend (sibling, actually) who regulary kayaks on the Fraser River. This is sharp and meaningful and expresses your kinship with nature. Thank you for sharing this gift, Vina and welcome to AD. Love and best wishes,

The images are sharp and as thrilling as the kayak ride in nature's majesty. So few get to see, let alone capture in writing and photo, the dance of the great blue heron.
