The evening sun is dying fast,
I sit thinking about what's passed.
Memories give me cause to weep,
I know tonight I shall not sleep.
Her face has never left my thoughts,
A kind soul who happiness sought.
She sat her dreams upon my face,
A sinner matched up to her grace.
It was a tumultuous world,
From where she and I had been hurled.
The Watts riots were going full steam,
But it could not dampen her dream.
I took comfort from her beliefs,
I had found love; what a relief.
The look in her eyes, one of bliss,
A sigh, a touch, and then a kiss.
Two people happy for their love,
We both thanked Heaven up above.
A brand new husband and his wife.
Starting out with naught but us two,
The world owed us this love so true .
We talked of children she would bare,
Patricia came, I had an heir.
Like the country dark clouds soon came,
Old demons called me . . . to my shame.
I fought my monsters and I lost,
My mind in chaos, boundary's I crossed.
I left her arms for song and dance,
She followed me for one last chance,
She thought this time we'd surely click,
And when she left she carried Nick.
Some say, on yourself don't be hard.
But goddamnit three lives I scarred.
