They return home with still young eyes and old souls
our youth sent to protect and serve, to keep us free
hearing daily of the ones who never return, we grieve
going though all seven stages, in the end finding a peace

The others pass us daily on the street, these old eyed souls
never speaking of loss youth plundered by the Gods of war
never bemoaning the forfeit of body or the souls bleak aspect 
Solomon's gold, doled from our coffers can never repay

There will always be wars evermore, for such is our nature
man for all his freewill has not risen far above the beast
clinging to what he feels is due, his man made given rights
our only hope lies in opening our own eyes and seeing

Removing the stars, replacing them with sorrowful soul eyes
feeling the pain, though phantom it may be of souls at war
this Veteran's Day when we pay honor that's more then just
remember the price paid, of loss youth and blacken souls
