Where are the marshmallow clouds of our youth?
The floating cotton white rabbits and puppy dogs
That traveled around the skies and sought the truth
What happened to that youth who hunted frogs?

Where is that youth that skipped rocks on the pond?
Where the water rippled with the kiss of dragon flies
The waterway that was the ocean to lands beyond
What happened to that youth with starry eyes?

Where is that youth who could dream for hours?
Dreams of fighting dragons and exploring space
Visions of old and new and testing super powers
What happened to that youth of the smiling face?

Where is that youth for whom living was a joy?
Living, loving, savoring and trying everything
Enjoyment and wonder that nothing could destroy
What happened to that youth with the brass ring?

Did that youth just grow up or simply give up?
Are the dreams still alive or buried deep inside?
Did the youth quit living and seek death's cup?
What became of that youth is for you to decide.

I often see children waiting for the school bus in the morning...this puts my overwhelming and often tear provoking feelings in to words. I never knew exactly how to articulate my feelings. You have done it.

I thought this began on a very sad tone, but the ending made me feel the writer was, after all, looking forward to the future.

This really takes the reader down memory lane to a time that was so carefree. It is ashamed that we all have to grow up and face life's sometimes harsh realities. Excellent write! ~Z~
