I wrote this poem two weeks after my father passed away. That was when I accepted the fact that he was gone.

Poem Artwork

I wish I had spent
More time with you while
You were living

I wish I had sent
You candy each day
With a card

When I'd let you down
You'd smile and you'd be
So forgiving

You'd still joke around
After a long day
You worked hard

Why is it we don't
Know just what we have
Til we lose it

Why is it we won't
Take the time to show love
When we should

The time that I had
I just didn't know
How to use it

I think you know, Dad
I'd make it all up
If I could

It happens because it isn't important to us when we are younger and also we thought our parents would live forever...

Always,

That's why I spend a lot of time with the elderly. Once they're gone, their wisdom goes with them.

acceptance is so hard, Jane,
but you handle it well, a light
and yet serious touch here..
and those final three lines are perfect
