In my area we have had monsoon like rain. I've been watching the children having the time of their life playing in the flooded street and sidewalk puddles.
Little voices laugh with glee
Play in puddles merrily
Bless the rain that brings them fun
Splashing little feet
Rain for days the streets did flood
Plastic shovels dig in mud
Innocent child makes mud pies
Sells them on the street
All the blow up rafts go by
Little pirate patch on eye
Rubber duckies get lined up
What could be more sweet
Water wonderland must close
Bath time and some nice dry clothes
Mothers call for little ones
Offering a treat

That's wonderful and I'm glad you caught it in a poem. You're getting some of that left over tropical rain that has ended the Texas drought, for now. One guy who lived here when he was a kid said he used to swim in the streets. It's discouraged now because floods here bring out all kinds of nasty critters and other dangers lurking in those inviting floodwaters.
Fun image and delightful poem. It makes me miss the time when I was in Hong Kong as a child. Whenever it rains it pours down like Niagara Falls, and we were soaking wet, walking bare feet on the streets. We took off our raincoats for the fun.
My, my, but that does bring back wonderful memories. At a certain age there is NOTHING any more fun than stomping around and wallowing in ditches and mud puddles.
