I am the sum total of my life's experiences. That's about it!

Poem Artwork

Thinking of all that I've been through
Thankful it has no bearing on
The person who I am today
For I have choices I can make

The path I've chosen is far from
The one that others thought I'd choose
Each new dawn brings new ponderings
Along with mindful wonderings

It's said that pain spurs growth to those
Who learn from it to their own good
Not leaning on excuses from
The past that "made" who I've become

"I think therefore I am." so true
Not thinking as I used to do
A different person I became
Although I still retain my name

Jane,

Profound thoughts, our choices have shaped and fashioned us.
In many cases, mine included, only the names are the same!
Thank you for this food for thought!

I never knew that "other" person, so I'm perfectly comfortable with the one who wrote this poem and showers me with accolades every time we communicate. May your beauty and worldliness last forever, like this heartfelt poem.

I love Stanza #3, the leaning on excuses and that the past isn’t the sum of who we become. Lovely* ~~ djl

You are no doubt a better person because of "all that you've been through!" Indeed, you are so right; how we change over time depending on the nature of our destiny. A fine, insightful poem.
