Correct Me If I'm Wrong...

Find, I do, that I am unable to make comment,

On a poem or story with misspelled words, I lament,

To do so, or so I feel, would be to admit to my own incompetence,

We most now a days do use, a computer with the program WORD,

Part and parcel of that program is a spell, grammar, punctuation check,

Or so has my computer and that I have ultimately heard…

To allow a poem to be put onto a website, with an error or misspelling,

Just seems to me to be lazy or is it that I am personally hazy?

It would signify to me that that person’s ability is lacking,

Or there again, am I being too picky, I know I have done so as well,

Especially I do so, when I am writing a review or somewhere the spell check can’t go…

So if I seem to ignore your works, beyond that of the fact that my head does ache, that day,

It maybe that a misspelled word did leave me with a bad taste,

And I don’t want to send a conclusion in any undue haste,

Hopefully all will understand, I am not infallible as well,

But just kinda anal, when it comes to misspelling I just feel what a waste…

There is however such a thing as poetic license, the ability for the poet to misspell,

Doing so with his knowledge and that is quite alright, but it is also easy to spot,

The author in no way being in the wrong or getting, as it were, caught,

If anal I am being and you feel I am being too much so,

Please tell me, so my head does not herein get too much of a swell,

Let me bid you a short and sweet, for this poem, farewell…

Yes, I can be quite anal as well when it comes to spelling and using language correctly; however, I would much rather read GOOD, solid work that is misspelled than less than stellar work that is spelled correctly. What a shame you are likely missing out on some excellent reading.

I have to disagree with you here. No one is perfect and nor is programs like WORD. Some words it doesn't recognize. And where does one draw the line. Should one not make a comment on a poem or story because it has grammatical errors; they are more important than misspellings. Even newspapers and books have misspellings in them.

Ed, I hate to be picky, but I found one word that is definitely not spelled correctly in this poem. And, I am not going to tell you which word it is. Have Fun!!
