I have had my share of kick backs by some poets when I give constructive criticism. Many just like to hear good words, but when I was too honest about what they can do with their poetry, I got kick backs about 10 times until I learn to be quiet about giving constructive comments.

I don't give out constructive comments anymore, I just ignore them as they present their work in the same old way. What's good is it in giving comments when others think less of us?

Ed, I tend to agree with what’s been said, and that being if a poem makes me think or I just plain like it, I say so, my friend. However, if there is a typo or something, you better believe I still think the most appropriate course of action is through the private channels available to us. I keep hearing about all this backslapping nonsense or in some cases backstabbing, and it doesn’t matter one way or another. You have a natural gift and I am glad that you post. Matter of fact you’re the only poet I know who’s dog can type well too! Just keep writing what you feel is important to you. You have many admirers, which I am glad to be amongst them. Peace through speaking your mind.

See.....I dont have a clue on the right way or the wrong way to comment on a poem. I say what I think about it, not what I think anyone wants to hear. Like a previous comment, I dont have the right qualifications to correct or instruct you on poetry. I dont read poetry based on punctuation etc etc, its helpful though to be able to but then I am one of those that find the Klingon language fascinating..........aarrrggghhh. All I know is, if I read and like it I will say.........and now you wish I hadn`t.......!
oh I havent commented on the style and rhyme yet.....teehee......MARVELOUS WONDERFUL,OO YOU ARE SO TALENTED, WISH I WERE YOU.......I am of course just teasing, please accept my apologies for trivialising(is that a word)

In the case of that one poem where you commented on it in what you call a negative way, I saw it as very positive and in fact think that you were too nice to her, she should be deported. Notice that most of these people are first generation Americans. Where are all those fruit trucks when you need them?

Well, Ed, yes yes! you noticed. :)))

This phenomenon has been addressed quite a few times by disappointed poets hoping to learn from 'us'...criticism doesn't work within the AD frame. Years ago, reviewers had a choice of giving one to five stars for the merit of the poem...that led to abuse by the sort of joksters that let loose their vile thoughts at amazon now and then.

I don't comment at all when I dislike a poem. If I comment, then I have found something I do like and I say so.

Moreover, I am not a teacher of poetry (most of us aren't), so how could I impose my views on you? If your punctuation sucks, I look at your words, I feel something...whatever...poetry needn't be exact.

Personality counts, so does originality and creativity.

Well so far I have not spotted any mistakes but Ed you remind me of another Ed I used to know. I was rather fond of that old fart too. So I am being honest and not afraid of hurting peoples feelings. I think you know one or too that I have put a few biting words on. But I think I will stick with reading yours makes sense to me. But then I am a reformed hippie myself.
