city life...

in the city for a delivery, bored, want to go home...

city life…

fog shrouding the streetlights,

not unlike smoke from a fire in the sky,

one was not to be seen, I don’t here lie.

flashing red lights passing my parked van,

noise from Interstate 95 a short distance away,

trucks, cars going their own way, north or south,

signs advertising this and that,

lit up so bright almost as day,

who really sees them or cares?

waiting for a pick up,

entertainment center empty/quiet,

parking lot same except for a few,

11:30pm in South Philadelphia,

why am I here, should be home,

and comfy in my bed…

waiting on a delivery, most likely won’t come,

been here, done this before,

know the ins & outs,

parked in the city this late,

still noise, always noise,

to think I used to live here,

noise a fact of life,

almost calming, almost sane,

just below the surface,

a rumbling of pain…

Excellent write, Ed. You've described the big city at night extremely well. Lived in that scene many many years. Well done!

Ed;

A fine serious work summarized neatly by the last three lines. Nicely describes the essential loneliness of city life. Good job.

I love the feel of this one, Ed. Although I would have liked to see you expand more on the fog, advertising signs, and the parking lot. I just felt like there's still so much more to see than what you showed us. You left me wanting to see more, but perhaps that was your intention.

Great observations, Ed, and expression. Sounds like you should have been home in bed ... LOL
Best regards,

Democratic Dilemmas and Divine Inspiration (A Kindle Short) by Aberjhani

Democratic Dilemmas and Divine Inspiration examines the significance or relevance of the idea that the U.S. Constitution was, as many believe, divinely inspired. How much did that belief matter to founders of the nation and how much does it matter no
