The "Lovers of Valdaro". This burial of a young man and woman, lying face to face, with their arms and legs entwined in an
apparent eternal embrace was discovered by archaeologists near Mantua in Italy. The burial, which dates from the Neolithic period, was excavated as a single block so the two ‘lovers’ would not have to be separated.

‘The Lovers of Valdaro’

Two lovers as one they wait,
Lost in their endless duet
Through endless ages gripping hold,
The dying embrace of Romeo and Juliette

Summer fades to endless winter,
Dreaming silent sweethearts sleep
Their dying declarations made.
Sacred still their vows they keep

Cannot help be moved...by your poem Mary,
about the power in the intimacy of an embrace
and the image of closeness revealed after years
of being hidden from others.
Touch and love go together as a universal way
to demonstrate comfort.
Thank you for sharing your talent.

It would be fascinating to read their story, whatever it may be.
Since I can't do that, I'll be content with your tender treatment in poetic style.

It is sweet to think that they died in a lovers embrace. However, they probably died trying to keep warm on a bitter cold day or of starvation. I'm sure that sharing body heat was one of the ways that primitive people survived terrible times.

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
