'We made a Desert'

The Roman Tacitus used the expression ‘They made a desert and called it peace’.

'We made a Desert'

We made a desert and called it peace,

We weaved the lies

Into the blanket of democracy,

We were the thieves

We stole their lives,

The flags fluttered high

As bombs rained down,

And darkened the skies

We commanded the heart and souls,

To swear loyalty, and then

We killed their children,

Again and again

Far away places,far away lands,

Little people with no escape

The mercenaries who plunder,

And we who forsake

The victims of greed ,

And naked aggression

The land of the living dead,

It's us, it's us, not them

Whether it be timber, gold, drugs or oil, we are consumed with consuming everything the desert has to offer without giving back in the name of freedom (to exploit?).

I really soul-searching and truth seeking poem that we should heed at our peril.

Kind A SLOw In The Kootenays v2.2 by RickthePoetWarrior

Has-beens and coffee get together to recreate a same old new tourist trap in a land even the First Nations don't want.

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
