'Paradises of time'
Give me beauty,
Give me life
The sheen of dawn,
On ocean's bright
The splendid moments,
Of sails in the wind
Travelling far,
On moment's whims
A shore that waits,
An anchor falling
A place apart,
Where heaven's calling
The seas that embrace,
In endless cascades
Beyond life's measure,
In soaring grace
Give me beauty,
Give me life
So I can know,
Those ocean's bright

But it evoked a memory of mine. While visiting the parents of a student in our doctoral program in Dhaka, Bangladesh, my host, the student's father, drove me to the bank of the Ganges River. I'll never forget what I saw there. Hundreds of sailboats, mostly small sailing both directions on the river with white sails marking their direction, without a sound. It was amazing not hearing a single motor, just the passing of these boats driven only by the silence of the wind.
