For Nick Berg and all the people before and after him that work to rebuild in the countries destroyed by war.

Wandering in deadened fields,
Some red, some green, some black
They are the light that shines
A strip of new growth follows their steps

Unwanted in their world
They persist in supreme efforts
To rebuild what has fallen
In the unneeded destruction

But their light can be extinguished
In a simple, but quick, stroke of hate
Their efforts gone unnoticed
To those who strike blindly

Yet others still persevere the work
Unfortunately still needed
They shine a dim light
In that Hell on Earth

But it is the ones that are lost
That are remembered
In the written and spoken word
The others are left to pass as a dim sparkle

All their work is remarkable
In times such as these
They are more then Samaritans
They are the backbone of hope

It is with a heavy heart
That any of these people are lost
To that unyielding power of hate
When their light can heal the broken world
