A little girl, aged five, perhaps six,
Stands on the curb by her home
On Miller street, past the post office.
She’s waiting, hoping for her Mom
To say that it will be safe to cross
To the other side of the street.
I slow down in anticipation.
Her Mom warns from the front porch,
“Be careful now. Please be careful!”
They see me stop, then she shouts,
“Okay! Now go! Go! Go! Quickly!”
The child looks, then runs and reaches
The other side: celebration!
Both wave to each other, knowing
That this is but the first of many
Crossings.
...the image of a little girl...confronts
the danger...crossing the street is dangerous
and...so is the life...but mother's help on the path
evaluates and depicts the challenge...The poet have
come to the point...when it is time to leave behind
the fear and make progress...grow...safely cross
the road... May trust-faith-hope-and-"mother's eye"
guide and help...to keep the walker...safe...when
crossing "that" hard path of life!
