The Waves

The waves seem endless

As I watch them on the beach,

How many shores have they reached

Before they wash ashore?

White caps in the distance

That will never touch land.

Stirred by the endless winds

That are friend or foe at times.

Sailors know their secrets,

As does the captain in a storm.

Many a ship has gone to the bottom-

One mighty wave and it was lost.

But as I lay and ponder,

The serenade of each wave.

I can hear the sailors voices

Who are part of the oceans lore.

We are the dreamers who listen,

As each tide ebbs and flows.

Our imagination is endless,

Much like the waves that touch the shore.

The waves are soothing, they lull us to sleep
or they capture our imagination. They bring
us peace and they bring us wonder. As many
have done by stuffing a note in a bottle to
see where the waves will carry off a part of
them to shores unknown.

I hear the waves from my bedroom window it
brings beautiful notes to my ears when I
lay down to sleep at night.

Just lovely George

"We are the dreamers who listen,
As each tide ebbs and flows.
Our imagination is endless,
Much like the waves that touch the shore."

This stanza says it perfectly

George: Water calms, it brings solace to a trouble soul. I find peace in the gentle waves of the ocean, the calm ripples of the bay. Your poem keeps me focused in this reality, where I need to be focused. Thank you for sharing.

God Bless You,
Deborah

You have a bounty of blessings George!!
I would love to hear this oceanic lull of your poem in person!
Your words take us there though...as I dream & float with the tide

As so many waves of poems testify. Many rhythms to life and waves are some of the most prevalent, washing ashore wherever there is a shore, leaving countless poets to contemplate.

I like this. Comparing our imagination to something as limitless as "waves that touch the shore" and "dreamers who listen, as each tide ebbs and flows"...wonderful phrase. Thoughtful work, George, as always. Be well, Kathy

Ah, worked many years in the Gulf of Mexico, so this one is a bit more special to me than some of the other.

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
