Of Fakes And Things

One cannot fake a thought,

But a thought can be about fakes.

I have met a few in my day,

Which is how this poem was formed.

The thought came to me

After sleeping on a lumpy bed.

A restless night can lead one into

Thoughts he would not think about.

Now I'm wide awake, though it be late.

A quick shower and I'll forget

The lumpy mattress and all the fakes,

And proceed to go my merry way.

So if you meet a fake today,

Remember what gave him away.

They all seem to fit in a mold,

Implant it in in your thoughts.

As for the lumpy mattress,

That problem is now solved.

It appears an old basball

Was what I was bumping into all night.

lumpy bumpy baseball in bed nights are not very comfortable George - your poem and observations speak volumes with regards to fakes - their molds are universal as you note - I can only wish them my best and send them on their way knowing the lives they lead are not rewarding - I wish you love and peace my dear friend - Jon Michael

the spice of life is variety
even if that variety is not honest
those who portray themselves other than
what they are I find most fascinating...

Keeps the mind going eh George?

Very good

My son calls this 'fakism' and sees so much of it in his line of work...enjoyed the read and you aren't the only one (if true) who sleeps with a baseball beneath the mattress...I can't name names for fear of being... well.. baseballed lol

I'm glad the lumpy mattress dilema is solved! I met a man once who seemed so charming and bright, only to find out that he was a pathological liar; it didn't take long to see that this fake had many flaws... they always do.

I asked a girl who's eyelashes were obviously fake if they were hers. She told me they sure were because she had paid for them!

Love ya!

You've got to be some baseball fan to sleep with their balls!

Works for me. I once asked an Indian friend about those guys who lay on nails and don't appear to feel a thing. You know, those fakirs? He replied with a wink, “That's why we call them 'Fakers.'”

I have been wondering the same thing, George. Maybe it's catching, whatever it is. I've lived on both sides of the fake persona unfortunately.
