Waking to a wet dream
Where I was swimming
In a cold lake alone,
But something touched me.
Was it a fish that rubbed
By my body or other life?
I swam for shore frightened,
Not knowing what it was.
I dressed and left that lake,
As I think something dwells
Beneath its welcoming waves
That I would not want to meet.
Just my imagination at work, not reality, but it could happen.

I once spent several afternoons floating around the lake half in and out of the water buoyed by an inner tube. I brushed up against weeds in the shallow water and sometimes up against stumps, but never against any of the snapping turtles, minnows, loons, panfish, or 4 foot long muskies that plied those waters looking for something tasty to eat. The only thing that bit me was the sun.
But I did think about it…
