I am to be stirred gently

As I lay asleep in peace.

My thoughts overshadow me,

Let them lie undisturbed.

Capturing the fulness of life.

In sweet dreams of yesterday.

I but a soldier long gone,

Whose battles have been won.

Dredge not a sleepy mind,

Nor revive memories held at bay.

Let not a soldiers thoughts be relived,

Better they stay away.

Life or death, live or slay,

Depends on the battle each day.

You know not him you have to kill,

It's part of war they say.

The wonderful one from First World War poetry comes to mind here..."I am the enemy you killed my friend"....
Let all be at peace with these words in mind....
