Idea is an abstract thing that often comes to a person at a lightbulb moment. Unless the thinker gets his/her idea copyrighted no one knows he/she has an idea to share; but then who has thunk the thoughts of an idea first? No one could possibly know, because an idea is just an idea. Everyone has one.
Also , an idea of from a person is very often comes from his/her own life's experience; otherwise the thoughts of an idea would not have been formed. People who have same life experience would have same idea. If you've got an idea on something and you did not put that on paper to have it copyrighted, then you can't do anything about it when another person puts it on paper to have it cpyrighted because there is no proof that you have thought of the idea first. That is why you always need to put copytight notices on the things you write.
My sister is a well-knwon scientific books author, once she was working with another author on co-authoring a scientific book while another person was present at the time they put the idea togther. That friend quickly took their ideas and wrote a book and then published it before my sister and her friend did. That friend was really sneaky; but my sister and her friend could not do anything about it because they could not prove that they had the idea first, but my sister has true talents, she is invited to univsrsities around the world to hold seminars for the students in all expense paid events. What she knows belongs to herself and no one can take away that true talents and knowledge from her, and that's the fact!!
All we have is our integrity. Strangely, surveys have found that, if given an opportunity many students will cheat to get better grades. I ran into plagiarism and cheating continually when I was in school and when I taught. What these cheaters think of themselves after doing it, I don't know. Some may think their integrity resides in getting away with it.
