Methinks it's the shooter and not the pistol. From my limited experience hunting for only five years, there's a big difference between shooting a rifle and a pistol. One has to be very steady to shoot a pistol well. The older I get the unsteady I get.

I agree that ammunition may get old. However, I've heard that gunpowder just gets more volatile and easily set off. As far as the pistol being old, it may be dirty, but if it hasn't been fired so much that it is worn, metal never gets old. Just people and their ideas.
