In days of old when prophets spoke

Would I have listened then?

Would sermons of death and hell

Remove my mind from sin?

In days when preachers were so bright

You had to take them at their word.

Your conscience pricked your mind

Till you listened to every word.

Oh heed the words that have sunk in

To a mind not easily entered.

For I have lived and loved at will,

O conscience where have you been.

A conscience is why drive me
Preachers I can take or disregard them
Peace be with you

Some live my conscience and others live unconscious. I guess, when one reaches the autumn years, things done will come back either good or bad, depending upon whether the conscience has been violated.

For what I went through recently, I realize that I had no conscience in my younger years. The last line in your poem hit home!

Love ya!

Jane
