Waiting intensifies war.

When will the order be given?

When the whistle blows.

Then the earth shakes.

 

There is much confusion

As you are running.

Can't see the line of attack

Or where the enemy is hiding.

 

The sound is deafening

Nerves by now are gone.

Fall in a bomb crater,

Blood oozing from a hit.

 

Cry for a medic,

But who can hear

In this maddening noise,

Yet he comes.

The fog of war. Glad I never experienced it. The last line says something about medics and their role in combat. Hope you didn't experience what you have written during your service.
