Below the decks

The engines churned.

Seeking a distant port

Where money can be earned.

The winds catch the sails

And drive us to this port.

We but the passengers,

Never to be left aloft.

Wise though we be,

There is wiser still.

Yet we bargin,

Till we get our fill.

Most sailing ships these days have backup engines. But your poem suggests a robbing engine driving the boat while sails also drive the ship. A real hybrid!

We have a lot more to bargain with, when our ship comes in.

a beautiful dynamic piece. . . still, the question is: how deep our fill is. Anyway, every single ship has its bilge. Cheers, alex

Bargaining in itself is a sport. Bless the "bargainers".

Love ya!

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
