Each step takes me closer
To my destiny preordained.
Nay, not in a religious sense,
But in complexity never stained.
There the road winds ever forward,
Passing the years which have elapsed.
Seeing the faces long removed,
Yet knowing they have found their place.
Forward ho, a voice cries.
Calling as if from the highest
Hill, yet knowing it must not be so.
For I am a lonesome soldier.
The battle has ceased.
The smoke burns my eyes.
The smell of a rotting corpse,
Lets me know it must be hell.

POWERFUL AND POIGNANT, KING!
It just makes me think of the Scripture from 1 Peter 4:13
"But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy."
I praise GOD He brought you through the war (Thank You for Your Service!)and I know full-well that great rewards await you,
beloved King George.

compelling read
Soldier: "Pick one general, and I'll hand it to you by sundown."
Old soldiers never die...
and hell, great expressive poetry, George.
Always,
Deborah
Love ya!
