They'll be no fireworks for me to hear,

As their incessant sounds scares me.

I have heard all the noise before

And it left a deep scar within me.

But let the kids have their day

And not fall victim to these blasts.

I know when I was a kid

It was fun to play with firecrackers.

Oh they were the simple kind,

That made but a little bang.

Yet it was fun to plant them

And watch as they went bang.

In my adulthood I have not enjoyed fireworks because of the big bang and such, but to view them from a distance, they can be quite pretty...-e-

Fireworks are like parades. If you've seen one, you've see 'em all. I don't go to either anymore.

I enjoy the fireworks from afar. But up close, it's way too loud for me. I get jumpy when a balloon pops lol Great poem, George. Happy 4th to you

For many years now, I watch the city of Houston's fireworks display and country music show on television. The fireworks display, choreographed to music, is always quite good, if overly long. But I recall the earliest fireworks at my uncle's farm whose parents had a hardware store and had fireworks. We went out in the field in the car because it was raining and watched them through the windshield wipers. I was also lucky to watch the show above the water at Santa Cruz where somebody dropped a stick of dynamite into the ocean below us and it blew with a huge watery explosion.

What is annoying is the idiots who illegally fire off fireworks from the apartment complex behind my house until two or three in the morning keeping us awake with the noise.

Methinks the country has taken Francis Scott Key's view of the flag from shipboard during war to Star Wars proportion. In one of my novels I speculated what fireworks would be like during the New Year's celebration 2100. The lucky would view it from space.

My kids and grandkids still go to firework displays. This year, I may need to "bow out" due to the healing going on inside my skull but next year I'll, God willing, be right back out there!! I feel sorry for those with babies and Veterans with PTSD for sure though. Write on, George!!

Love ya!

Jane

Fireworks do become annoying after a while, when you reach a certain age. Well done

I'm out of the firecracker business, and have been for a long time. I hate to hear them going off and going off and going . . .
