Tea with a buttered roll

Which I dunked into the tea.

It was so delicious in the morning

To sit and partake of this delight.

I was but a kid, when on Sunday morn

This was my treat after Mass.

And believe me I looked forward to it.

Next I had to read the funny papers, Mutt and Jeff.

It seemed back then war was not that near,

Nor did I ever think of having to fight in one.

Just a lazy Sunday, enjoying the food I had.

Just a kid, thankful for life's bounty.

Food tasted better then. Perhaps our taste buds were young? However, food taste GREAT when we fast and giving all this eating a break. Hmmmm...

What a blessing from God - to be able to go back in time in just an instant - and relive our most heart-warming childhood memories! Seems yours was delicious!

We truly are fearfully and wonderfully made, King George!
Glad to see you still writing.. your latest book, Light of Day, is wonderful!

This one takes me back as I read it; somehow, the simplest things mean so much to us in so many ways forever. A nostalgic writing that brings the things I cared about back to the present for a short revisit.

We drank tea, too, but our favorite was coffee. We dunked donuts, rolls or coffeecake. But our favorite was coffee and crackers with lots of evaporated milk that our father helped make and ship for the war effort. He didn't go; was deemed ineligible by the doctors. So we would , my father, my brother and I fight over who got to see the funnies pages first. ;-)
