The Storm Is Raging

(Why we fight against giving up.)

The storm is raging,
as it often does within my soul.
The trees bow
under the cruel whipping of the wind.
What majesty
calls for the  lightning that rips the skies
to threads
just like the shredded seams that bind my sanity.
How easy
it would be to give up this hopeless fight
that is waged
despite the fact that few there be who win.
How simple
it would be to give over to the storm,
to disperse
my straining leaves and snap myself in two.
But alas,
there is no way this storm can last forever.
I must simply
be stronger than the storm and remember;
amidst stormy skies,
rain-soaked earth, twisted timber...the rainbow is born.

Fantastic write, Ed! I know wherefrom you come, even now as winter casts its cold, sometimes sad spell. I love the way you give encouragement that the storm will end. Thanks so much.
