At the church her station keeping,
stood the joyful mother weeping,
close to the moment at last.
Through her heart, her worry sharing,
all her anguish closely bearing.
Now at length the sword has passed,
How sad and so sore distressed
was that mother, highly blessed.
Sacrificial lamb stands alone.
Above all hope torment hangs,
she beneath beholds the pangs
of her glorious forsaken one.
Is there one who would not weep
whelmed in miseries so deep
Daughter’s mother to behold?
Can a human heart refrain
from partaking in her pain
this Mother's refrain untold?
Bruised, derided, cursed, defiled,
she beheld her only child
Her bitter tears all but spent.
For the sins of her creation,
Watched her live in desperation,
Till her virtue forth she sent.
Mother! Eternal gift of love!
Touch her spirit from above,
make her heart with your accord.
Make her feel as you have felt
Cause her heart to glow and melt
with all care you can afford.
Blessed Mother! Pierce her through
in her heart lessons renew
save her from each time you cried.
Let us share with you her pain
while growing all sins disdained
Torments bled each time she lied.
Let us mingle tears with you
Mourn this day she says “I do,”
all the days that we may live.
By altar kneel with you to stay
bread and wine, so let us pray.
All that’s asked for you to give.
Sacrificial virgin blessed
Listen to my last request:
let me share my grief divine.
Let me speak with my last breath,
from my body bearing death
Lust may show, but life takes time.
You will suffer every wound,
He has two wives, honor bound
You, love, duty far away.
Daughter, listen to me sigh,
lest in fire I burn, then die,
by your side his final day.
Your father gave his soul, true
For glory of red, white, blue
a bronze cross my victory.
While my body here decays,
may my being goodness praise,
Pray no flag to share with me.
